Why is fasting necessary?
The purpose of fasting is to humble yourself before the Lord, to seek His direction for your life and His resolution for your problems.
The biblical principle for fasting can be found in the following scriptures:
“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river Avaha, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us, and our little ones and our possessions.
Exra 8:21
In addition to this, fasting is a powerful and essential tool to be used in spiritual warfare.
So Jesus said to them, “because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will sat to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
