How should you fast?

Fasting is not about making do without food. It is about giving up food so that you can spend time with God. In essence, when you would normally be eating, or when you feel hungry, you should use that time to enter into the presence of God and pray to Him about the issue that you are fasting for.

Fasting is not about being hungry. It is about getting closer to God so that you can feed on Him, and be strengthened by Him.

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the lord.

Deuteronomy 8:3

When you fast, be committed to God; commit with him. You are not fasting for the sake of it; you are fasting for a specific time and a specific reason. Write out a contract with the Lord detailing what you are fasting for, and uphold your side of the contract.

Be diligent in your fast; don’t allow a day to go by during your fast without you bring your petition to the Lord and seek His resolution for it.

Listen to, and take note of, what the Lord is saying to you whilst you fast. Write it down so that you do not forget it and meditate upon what the Lord is saying.
